Trophy Club History

The Trophy Club area was first settled in 1847 by Charles and Matilda Medlin along with 20 other families. At first they established their homesteads along the banks of Denton Creek but the constant flooding of the creek forced them to move to higher ground. In 1952, Denton Creek was dammed to form Lake Grapevine.

Glen Turner, a lawyer from Dallas, purchased around 2,000 acres along Highway 114 in 1956 and founded the Circle T Ranch. This lead to a revitalization of the area as dozens of other ranches and homeowners began settling the area which became known as Westlake which then included the real estate land north of Denton Creek which was later disunited from Westlake and became known as Trophy Club. In the early 1970s, Houston developers Johnson & Loggins and professional golfer Ben Hogan proposed the idea to build a residential country club and golf course in the northern part of town. Trophy Club was finally developed with the construction of a housing development with a posh country club as it's focal point. Trophy Club was incorporated in 1985. Trophy Club was named for the Country Club which houses golfing legend Ben Hogan's trophy collection.
